LOVE February - Try It Out Tuesday: Nigella's Devil's Food Cake chocolate cake from the heart
Because it seemed like a Nigella-ish (is that a word?) thing to do and inspired by Chabonnel & Walker's gorgeous violet creams I added a tiny amount of Violet Extract to the dark chocolate icing, I topped it off with some beautiful Lapis blue violets. You could probably do the same with Rose Extract which is more commonly available and I think it would work really well topped with edible rose petals perhaps gilded with a little gold leaf. Or maybe even lavender would work.
It was delicious served with a pot of Lapsang Souchong for a delectably different afternoon tea and equally so as dinner party dessert with a little creme fraiche and hot hot black coffee.
