I have always loved reading.
I live in a house of readers.
The first trip my son had following his birth, was to the library to get his library card.
As a child I had read all the books in the children's library by the age of 10.
Imagine my confusion during lockdown when I felt like I could no longer concentrate to read. Not a book, nor a magazine. Nothing at all. Prior to that date I was reading two or three whole books a week, it was like someone had switched out a light.
I tried all kinds of books but never could get past the first few pages, the time that I had to read was extensive but I just couldn't settle. The day before lockdown I had rushed to the library and taken out my full quota, some brilliant fiction. It sat there looking at me, it was frustrating.
It has taken me twelve months, twelve unthinkable months to read again, and do you know what helped me back into reading? Audio books. It is almost like I have regressed, that I have had to start at the beginning to be read a bedtime story.
I was lucky to have lots of access to audio books, as my library offered this facility. Audible are also offering a special deal at the moment where you can have a free trial or a three month subscription for 99p after which you can keep your books for free forever. There's thousands of books to choose from, so you are bound to find one to suit you.
Since I rediscovered audio books I have listened to lots of different authors. Many whom I would not normally choose, I am rediscovering my appetite for a good tale. I still haven't picked those library books up, but I am reading e-books on my phone. I know I am going to get there soon.
