Thoughtful Thursday: Make time for tea to support The Eve Appeal
12:01 amMarch 2011 is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and The Eve Appeal, which funds essential research into gynaecological cancers, is asking people to get involved with their Make Time for Tea campaign. Ovarian cancer is diagnosed in 6,600 women a year in the UK and some 4,400 die of the disease. The disease is the fourth most common cause of cancer death in UK women and has a death rate similar to the survival rate for breast cancer.
The Eve Appeal are asking people to host a tea party to increase awareness of ovarian cancer and raise funds. There are many ways you can fund raise why not arrange a baking competition amongst your friends or host an afternoon tea? Its a great way of getting people together or meeting new friends and recent research has indicated that tea is a lot more than just a refreshing drink - drinking two or more cups of green or black tea a day could lower a woman’s risk of developing Ovarian Cancer.
ITV presenter Lorraine Kelly has also offered a fantastic competition prize to anyone taking part – the chance to win afternoon tea with her at a top London hotel. You can win a place at the tea with Lorraine for you and a friend in three different ways – by raising the most money, by holding the most creative tea party or by producing the most beautiful baking.
