Betty's - Christmas treats at their best

3:56 pm

Christmas came early for the Dormouse team when Betty & Taylors of Harrogate sent us one of their delicious fruit cakes to celebrate the launch of their new Christmas range.

The North Yorkshire based family business has been trading for 91years. They are famed for their traditional cafe tea rooms in Harrogate, York, Northallerton and Ilkley and their delicious afternoon teas, but they also have a fantastic range of coffee, teas and cakes for sale online.

Amongst the festive goodies on offer are a wide range Christmas cakes, puddings and pies, handcrafted chocolates and some amazing hampers. We love the idea of a hot chocolate gift box for those cold winter evenings and what little one wouldn't love to receive a gorgeous new nursery bag with chocolate bears hiding artfully inside?

The cake we received was an Old Peculier Fruit Cake and it was ideal for a special tea, incredibly rich moist and full of gorgeous vine fruits. We loved the delicious glace cherries and walnuts on top as well as the deep boozy taste of Theakston Old Peculier ale.

We had a slice for a weekend evening treat with a shot of Irish cream but it was equally delicious with a nice cup of tea mid afternoon. It would also go very well with a slice of creamy Wensleydale cheese. We think it would be an ideal gift for the uncle or brother who has everything but still has a corner in their tummy!

Old Peculier Fruit Cake in a keepsake Bettys tin is £18.95 (excluding postage) and is available until week ending 25/12/2010.
